About Lutron Electronics

Founded in 1961 by physicist Joel Spira, Lutron Electronics transformed the lighting industry with the invention of the solid-state dimmer. Spira's innovation in the late 1950s introduced a compact, energy-efficient dimmer designed for standard residential wallboxes, a revolutionary improvement over the bulky, heat-intensive rheostats used at the time.
